Overview

Explore the undiscovered neighborhoods of Lisbon! Baixa and Mouraria are neighborhoods rich in culture and history while hosting some of the best restaurants and eateries Lisbon has to offer. Our tour takes you away from the tourist traps, to the local and largely undiscovered backstreets of Lisbon where locals spend their days. During this tour, you'll taste some of the most amazing Portuguese foods paired with wines and beers you won't get elsewhere! As we walk the streets, you'll not only get to know the city through its amazing food and drinks, but also gain an understanding of the international influences present throughout the city, from the amazing street art to learning all about the Fado musical genre.

Meeting Point

We'll meet you in the center by the monument (our guide will be holding an Eating Europe sign or wearing an Eating Europe logo). Don't use Apple maps for directions. Use Google maps

What To Expect

1. Monument to the Restorers Our meeting point! 5 minutes

2. At this Muslim-inspired decorated building you'll learn about its rich history before diving into one of the most popular Portuguese snacks, the bifana, pairedwith a refreshing beer." 25 minutes

3. Take a picture of the oldest and most important churche in Lisbon. 10 minutes

4. Praca Martim Moniz Cross a popular square in Lisbon

5. Admire the cobblestones in front of this particular church 3 minutes

6. Discover Mouraria neighborhood, the birthplace of fado music.

7. Casa do Alentejo Taste a regional food Alentejo dish to get your food tour started! We'll be tasting a local and seasonal specialty. 10 minutes

8. Taste the Mozambican influence on the Lisbon cuisine! At one of the most popular restaurants in Lisbon, you'll get to sip an African beer alongside some tasty chamuças (Portuguese samosas). 20 minutes

9. VIP access to a traditional fado house run by a Michelin starred chef! 25 minutes

10. At this stop we will try “peixinhos da horta”, a Portuguese go-to comfort food which translates to “little fish from the garden”. It consists of breaded and fried green beans paired with home made wasabi mayonnaise. You'll also try codfish “brandade” (which is a codfish, potato and herb pâté) alongside sparkling wine made exclusively for this restaurant. 30 minutes

11. A Portuguese food tour would not be complete without their most famous pastry, the pastel de nata! And this place is named by many to make the best onesin town." 15 minutes

Fred was so knowledgeable not only with food and the wines and the desserts but the history of Portugal and even the architecture was an overall amazing tour. I’ve been on many tour and my life and I would say his is one of the top.
